Educational Program
"Things are really clear here. I know what to expect."
The Antrim Girls Shelter School is a fully certified special education private school. Our program is dedicated to providing individualized educational programs tailored to the short term needs of our residents. The curriculum follows the NH Frameworks state-wide curriculum so that students are fully able to maintain their progress in school when they have been attending regularly. Grades can be issued and credit given in consultation with the sending school district. Consulting teachers in every subject area participate in ensuring that the curriculum meets all state standards.
Many of our residents have not attended school regularly or have special learning needs that must be taken into account. Our teaching staff, which includes a certified special education teacher, finds creative and innovative ways to engage every student in the learning process. Our focus is always on rekindling the excitement of learning in every girl by targeting each area of learning to the needs and interests of each student.
What Can Be Done in 60 Days?
We, at the Antrim Girls Shelter know that adolescence is a short, but crucial time in a woman's life. Young women are extremely vulnerable during this time and are at risk for serious consequences if they lack the love and guidance that every human being needs during childhood. These young women are challenging authority and pushing society's limits. They are also strong willed, sensitive, funny and full of life's possibilities. They are tomorrow's mothers, tomorrow's community leaders, employees and citizens. They ask tough questions and need straight, caring answers in order to navigate this difficult transition in life.
We may not be able to fix their families, cure their addictions, or change the lives they have known in the past. We, but we can, and do, give each young woman a chance to slow down, understand the choices she has made that have gotten her into trouble, and to move on, equipped with a new vision of what is possible with the support of caring adults.
